History[]

Early life[]

Yang was born alongside his sister, Ying-Hua out of the need for balance that occurred in Iwa, the realm created by Xuri, later known as Yin, and the three became 'siblings', so to speak, as they were all part of the same balance.

Protecting the infant realm alongside his siblings, most matters concerning governing the human populace was left to the Staff Council. However, Amaru, one of the councillors went rogue, and as a result of his experiments, the realm began to die, and Yang, Ying, and Yin, using Oni gold from the Golden Peaks, forged the Golden Weapons in the Temple of Light, and out of Iwa, created a new realm: Ninjago.

Stone Wars[]

Although Yang was proud of the realm they had made, Yin was selfish, and wished to be worshipped as the sole creator of Ninjago, and kept everyone on his side of the continent, while Yang's was thought to be populated by demons and dark spirits, as a result of Yin's manipulation.

However, he was unaware of Yin's lies, and went to High Czar Kozu of Morcaracalalando to try and convince the sovereign to colonise the area. Pitying the young man, Czar Kozu took some troops and went to Kayashinaa, only to be corrupted by Xin'ai, the 'Overlord', and forced to become his Stone Warriors.

Soon after he received news from Chancellor Samuda of Kozu's disappearance, the Stone Wars was launched on the continent, the forces of the Overlord dominating large swathes of land. Together with an army of humans, Yin, Yang, and Ying-Hua fought the Stone Army, only to nearly be defeated. On the brink of their defeat, Ying changed destiny, so that the continent would be divided in two, Kayashinaa- Dark Island, and Ninjago- Light Island, thus ending the war once and for all.

After the war, the three parted ways, Yang travelling the world in search of inner peace.

The Garmadon Family[]

Some centuries later, the three would reunite after the Ningen Empire collapsed, and various clans and groups formed as a result. To make their own clan, Yin suggested that they first make a family name for themselves. They each agreed on the Izumaltongue word 'Garmadōnn' which translates to 'Military Might', and transliterated it into 'Garmadon'.

The newfound 'Garmadon family' grew larger as Ying-Hua married a man named Daisuki Amano, who was of the Takahashi clan, and the two would have many children. Yang was very happy for his sister, as he had never seen her so happy. Sadly, due to both Oni and Dragon blood Yang and his siblings were almost immortal, and Daisuki died to old age while Ying-Hua was still youthful. Soon, Ying-Hua's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were dying, and Yang could see the toll it was taking on Ying's mental health. Soon, the three departed to world affairs and their former lives, and took up residence in a large Temple on a remote mountain, somewhat close to the border of the Tundrian Queendom.

Career as a Sensei[]

Sometime after Yang, Yin, and Ying-Hua had moved into their temple, they were hosted by a Tundrian woman named Yuki, and Yang fell in love with her, and Yuki fell in love with him.

However, he would later be given the Yin-Blade by his brother. He quickly grew fascinated with its immense power, and it drove him mad. Consumed by his curiosity, he travelled to a remote pagoda to study the weapon and its unique properties. Tragically, he was later informed that Yuki had passed. Heartbroken, he fell into depression, and remained locked inside his temple. Soon discovering the life-giving properties of the Yin-Blade, he tried many times t resurrect Yuki, though to no avail, leading to him tapping into powerful dark magic to further his efforts, but still failed.

Losing his mind from a lack of interaction and heartbreak, he began questioning whether he was alive or not, and began worrying if he were to be remembered or not. Finally leaving his temple after fifty years, he opened up his own dojo, and began taking in students from across Ninjago, taking on the alias of 'Kodokuna Yang'.

Yang was strict, and taught discipline with harsh punishment, as to prepare his students for understanding airjitzu, amongst his many other martial arts. During this time, he continued to study the Yin-Blade.

At some point, he encountered Yuki at the market. Overjoyed that she had not in fact died, Yang spent the day with her, and Yuki promised that once she got Yu, Wu, and Ming, the two would run away together. However, Yuki would end up dead, having "fallen" and died, according to Yin. Yang would be invited to attend the funeral procession. Once he returned to his temple, he took out most of his anger on his students, and now that he new Yuki had died for sure, he was convinced he would be able to revive her.

Demise[]

Knowing his own magic wasn't strong enough, he travelled to the Dead-Mountain Village, where he met the sorceress Laka, as well as her partner, Clouse, who were both masters of the Five arts, Laka especially. He tasked them with refining the magic of the Yin-Blade, so that a resurrection could be attempted.

While the two tested the magic of the blade, Laka grew increasingly attached to the weapon, and became obsessed with its magic, much to the displease of Yang. Eventually concluding that the blade had to contain some form of Spirit of Sacred magic, she attempted to remove the bottom gem for further inspection, leading to a fight between the two, a fight which Clouse broke up.

Some days later, the mountain at the centre of the village erupted, and he, Laka, and Clouse managed to use the Yin-Blade to protect them and barely escaped. However, the Yin-Blade was nearly destroyed, and as such Yang lost his trust in Laka, and left the village. After he returned to his students, he found many had been slacking while he was gone. As such, he demanded they sit in the attic in a horse-stance for three-hours. In his study, he continued to test the limits of the Yin-Blade himself. However, before he went to revive Yuki, he realised, that she, a full-blooded Tundrian would most definitely outlive him, and to keep them together forever and make him the greatest master in the world, attempted to give himself immortality. Contrary to his beliefs regarding his skill, the spell he attempted backfired, and both he and his students were trapped in limbo, trapped between life and death, cursed to guard his temple.

In the following decades, Yang's mental health declined considerably, seemingly to match the decay of his temple, which was regularly looted by nearby villagers, until the Imperial Government placed it under heritage protection, and it became a cheap tourist sight. Despite this, legends surrounding him, his students, and the curse of his temple dissuaded people from entering, those who did were spooked by his pupils, while he began researching and preparing for the next Yin-Yang Eclipse.

Day of the Departed[]

On the Day of the Departed and the Yin-Yang Eclipse, Yang used his dark magic combined with his blade to summon the souls of the Ninja's past enemies. While they were distracted, he attempted to open a rift that would allow he to exit limbo. However, he was duelled by Cole, and the two eventually learned to respect eachother, but not before Naiada and his students crossed the rift and the Yin-Blade was shattered. Recognising his mistakes, Yang decided to remain in the Temple as Master of the House, and he allowed Cole to pass through, while remaining behind...

Appearance[]

Yang was originally a very handsome young man with dark brown hair, tanned skin, and cobalt blue eyes. He had a profound cupids bow and liked to style his hair in a top-knot. Although in his youth he preferred to stay clean-shaven, he eventually grew a mustache. During his time in seclusion, he became thinner and paler, due to malnutrition and a lack of sunlight. He also grew a wispy, unkempt beard. As a ghost, he was mostly see-through, surrounded by a pale green glow.

He usually wore traditional clothing, consisting of a silver conical hat, white gi, black pants, and tabi shoes. As a younger master, he wore shoulder armour with a black cape.
